Depending on the accommodation, you will arrive at the facility to start getting to know the area, exploring the village and beginning to visit the locations where the actors of films shot in this historic setting performed. You will be provided with a detailed map of the locations and the films filmed there, giving you a first sense of where you are and what you will discover in the following days. The first day will end with a dinner featuring local products. Overnight stay.
In Santo Stefano di Sessanio and Rocca Calascio, several successful films and TV series have been shot, including Ladyhawke, The Name of the Rose, The American, They Call Me Trinity, Amici Miei Atto II, La Piovra, and Una Pura Formalità. Rocca Calascio, in particular, has been chosen as a location for many famous film productions. Riding our mountain bikes, we will follow trails that take us to the exact locations where these films were shot, with long stretches on dirt paths. Dinner on your own and overnight stay.
In Castel del Monte in Abruzzo, several films have been shot, including Ladyhawke (1985), The Gospel According to Matthew (1964), Tale of Tales (2015), The American (2010), and the TV series Italy for Movies. The village has been used as a cinematic location for fantasy, drama, and historical films, often in combination with nearby Rocca Calascio. Mountain biking and walks through the village provide the perfect combination for this day in the Gran Sasso mountains. Arrival at Rifugio Mucciante will offer a wonderful outdoor experience. On the Campo Imperatore Plateau, several famous films have been shot, including westerns such as They Call Me Trinity and Continuavano a chiamarlo Trinità, as well as genre films like The Name of the Rose, Ladyhawke, Yado (Red Sonja), and The Desert of the Tartars. Other films include Ferrari (2023), The Journey of the Bride (1997), Una Pura Formalità (1994), Life Is Beautiful (1998), and Fabbricante di lacrime (2024). Along very wild trails, you will experience a unique adventure surrounded by the majesty of the mountains, reaching the iconic locations of the Gran Sasso. Long stretches on dirt paths. The Gran Sasso Movie Tour takes you to discover the most iconic natural film locations following a “cinema map,” along mountain bike trails and trekking routes immersed in nature. You will visit historic villages like Santo Stefano di Sessanio, Castel del Monte, and Rocca Calascio, as well as legendary landscapes such as the Campo Imperatore plateau—true cinematic symbols.
The tour includes a half-board stay with dinner, a complete dossier on the film locations, and the presence of a guide and tour companion throughout the experience.
