Some trips begin as a simple escape, while others unfold like a fine wine—slowly, with the right timing and a touch of magic. Our Wine Safari by Bike in Le Marche was born this way: from friendly conversations and a shared desire to unplug and immerse ourselves in a landscape of rolling hills, vineyards, and charming villages filled with history. Autumn was the perfect season: the leaves turned golden and crimson, the air was crisp, and the vineyards, heavy with grapes, told the story of a harvest just completed.
Starting from Morro d’Alba: The Heart of Lacrima Wine
Our journey began in Morro d’Alba, a gem of Le Marche’s wine culture, famous for Lacrima di Morro d’Alba, an intensely fragrant red wine—just like the emotions awaiting us. After settling into a farmhouse surrounded by vineyards, we strolled among the rows, breathing in the silence of the hills. It was clear from the start that this wasn’t just a trip; it was an experience to be savored slowly, sip by sip.
Between Castles, Vineyards, and Wineries: The Beauty of a Slow Pace
Hopping on our bikes, we pedaled through the Terre dei Goti di Alarico, passing through enchanting villages like San Marcello and Montecarotto, along cypress-lined roads and postcard-perfect landscapes. Autumn in this part of Le Marche is a feast for the senses: the scent of damp earth, the warmth of the lingering sun, and the first chestnuts appearing in local markets.
A stop at Castello di Castiglioni, near Arcevia, gifted us a breathtaking panoramic view. There, we tasted freshly poured Lacrima, rich and honest—just like the people who welcomed us. Every stop was a discovery, every winery a small family story, filled with passion and hard work turned into excellence.
Cupramontana, Staffolo, and the Vallesina: A Journey Through Verdicchio Country
Leaving Rosora, we ventured into one of the most iconic wine regions: the land of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi. The landscapes seemed endless—hilltop villages, perfectly aligned rows of vines stretching to the horizon, and that golden autumn light that made everything look almost poetic. In Cupramontana, the homeland of Verdicchio, we took a long break at a local winery, listening to stories of grapes and fermentation, told like fairy tales. Then, we cycled up to Staffolo, an enchanting village perched over the Vallesina Valley, where the wind carried the scent of grape must and the bells chimed lazily, like a scene from an old movie. A stop at Tenuta Tavignano was the highlight of the day—elegant tastings, stunning views, and a castle standing like a silent guardian over the landscape. We laughed, we toasted, and we realized we were creating memories to cherish forever.
Jesi: The Perfect Finale Between Tradition and Art
The final stretch led us to Jesi, an elegant yet deeply rooted city, where agriculture and winemaking remain at its heart. The wheat fields were already resting after the harvest, but the vineyards still swayed under the sky. On our way, we visited Villa Bianchi by Umani Ronchi, one of the region’s most renowned wineries. Between tastings, we reflected on our journey—the rides, the climbs, the flavors, and above all, the sense of wonder we had experienced. Arriving in Jesi felt like closing the circle. We entered the city tired but happy, knowing we had traveled through a piece of Italy that deserves to be explored slowly—just like a fine glass of wine enjoyed at sunset.
Why Choose a Wine Safari in Le Marche?
Because it’s a journey for the soul—an authentic experience through the rolling hills of Le Marche, perfect for those who love bike touring, fine wine, and the beauty of a slow pace. In autumn, everything glows, everything is gathered, everything is savored with greater intensity. And Le Marche, with its gentle landscapes and genuine hospitality, knows how to create emotions that stay with you forever.
